CHRISTMAS IS EVERYDAY
my friend, you look so sad
the way you shoulder your life like a curse
you left your friends by the side of the road
'cause you gotta be the one who comes in first
but don't you see this life is a gift
you open up the box and we start to play
you gotta come down and get your holly-jolly on
'cause christmas is everyday

(every day) you gotta give your thanks and praise to the maker
(every day) 'cause christmas is plain as the smile on your face
(every day) you gotta reach out your hand to the hand of the stranger
this is why i say...

you're never gonna get by in this world when you treat them that way
you got to live your life baby like christmas is everyday (2X)

when you were a little bitty boy
wound up tight when you tried to sleep
the new red bike, the big bass drum
the big gold star on the top of the tree
now you're grown, you bring your gift
you open up your heart then get out of the way
ring them bells and let the people know
that christmas i everyday

(every day) you gotta give your thanks and praise to the maker
(every day) 'cause christmas is plain as the smile on your face
(every day) you gotta live your life like the child in the manger
this is why i say...

you're never gonna get by in this world when you treat them that way
you got to live your life baby like christmas is everyday
you got to come down front and listen to the words i say
you got to live your life baby like christmas is everyday

my friend you make one wish
you light your light and you pass it around
wake up the child, take him to the window
show him the snow that's falling down
life is a gift for the young at heart
you teach the child in your heart to say
'from baltimore to bethlehem said
christmas is everyday'

(every day)...

you're never gonna get by when you treat them that way
got to live your life like christmas everyday (4X)

you're never gonna get by...
'We were commissioned by Hungry for Music to record a song for their 2000 Christmas CD Benefit. I rolled around a couple of standards in my head, but the chorus came to me one night in a flash. If we acted like every day was Christmas, maybe it would be the natural antidote to road rage and self-absorption in the world.
